Western Fly Fishing

Information on fly fishing in the west of Ireland

Annoying, frustrating, irritating, agitating, confusing and confounding. Where are the fish? A bit run went up in the very low water at the end of June but hardly a fish to be found since. A good day on the water is urgently needed or I may have to take up needle work

I stopped off for a look at the Clare upstream of the bridge in Claregalway at lunchtime today. A guy and his daughter caught a salmon a piece in the 20 odd minutes i was there. A fresh 5lb on the worm and a 4lb on a black flying c. The river was a brown as hell but reports of 12 fish caught there yesterday with the biggest weighing 12lbs!!!!! Need i say any more

FINALLY! There is a 1 metre flood in the Clare River. The first decent flood of the summer. Sharpen your hooks.............

Had heard last week it was very quiet too. Bound to getting better by now. Was thinking of giving it a go on friday with the shrimp
